Craftsman 18 in. 4.0 HP electric chainsaw review

Craftsman 18 in. 4.0 HP electric chainsaw review

ReviewSpecificationWhere to buy

The design of the Craftsman 4.0 HP is created to add safety and comfort, and it is quite an improvement in this regard as compared to the previous 3.5 HP Craftsman chainsaw. The auto-tension system is allegedly going to automatically maintain the pressure while in use, and decrease the frequency of any repairs and maintenance needed to keep this chainsaw up and running.

Pros:

Perfect for homeowners

The Craftsman 4.0 HP is not a powerful chainsaw per se, but it’s very powerful for most of the uses you could have for a chainsaw around the house, such as the occasional tree trim or broken branch clean up. What makes it even better for home use is that it doesn’t need any fuel. It can stretch to 16” diameter logs without any problems and is very easy to handle, even for amateurs.

Safety measures

Just like the previous Craftsman, the 3.5 HP model, this chainsaw has a lot of safety measures attached to it, and they seem to have been improved this time around. While it is still advisable that you are cautious when using it, there should be little to no kickback during use. The safety mechanisms shouldn’t allow you to be able to start cutting before you’re actually ready, so risks of accidents are greatly decreased.

Cons:

Motor issues

If you use the Craftsman 4.0 HP for a longer period of time, you may notice that the motor brushes have lessened or even that smoke is pouring from the motor housing. This is caused by the excessive sparking, and you will have to let it rest for a few minutes before using it again.

Oiler issues

You may also notice some problems about the oiler, which may cause the automatic chain lube to quit working. Just like the previous Craftsman chainsaw in this series, you will most likely experience issues such as the chain falling off often.

Good improvement!

The Craftsman 4.0 is a good improvement to the 3.5 HP predecessor electric saw, making it an even more reliable home tool for any handyman.
