Echo CS-400 18 in. 40 cc gas chainsaw review

Echo CS-400
ReviewSpecificationWhere to buy
The Echo CS-400 chainsaw is a powerful tool for professional woodcutters, with a 40.2cc engine that should be able to assist you in the toughest jobs.

The manufacturer promises high durability over the time, and that seems to be the case indeed, due to some ingenious designs that allow this chainsaw to remain clean after long hours of use. The CS-400 is a replacement for another one of the Echo chainsaws, the CS-4400, which was heavier, but seemed to have more quality to it than the CS-400.

Easy to use

You should have no problems getting the Echo CS-400 started, and it shouldn’t die on you unless you get the chain so dull that it cannot cut any more. The carburetor settings can be accessed with ease any time you want, from the side of the chainsaw, without removing any cover. All you need is a normal screwdriver.

The very low vibrations will allow you to use the CS-400 for as long as you want, without feeling your hands numb or dull. You won’t even hear the engine when the chain is not engaged. It will also be easy to use it due to its light weight, which makes it very easy to maneuver. You can even climb trees to cut them with the CS-400. You will be surprised to find out how much power this chainsaw has, despite being so light.

Good performance

The CS-400 gas chainsaw is one of the most durable chainsaws you’ll ever use. It has awesome features such as a metal switch that doesn’t break if it gets tapped by logs and an adjustable bar oil screw that you can easily use to adjust the amount of oil that the chain is getting, so chain sharpening shouldn’t be required very often of you. And you don’t have to worry about the oil leaking, as you would with previous Echo chainsaws.

You will also like the rubber baffle in the air filter housing, which you can remove and only use it cold weather, to increase the air flow.

Other than that, you can really use the CS-400 nonstop and still enjoy it like you would when you got it out of the box. Even if something unexpected happens and you somehow manage to break it, you don’t have to worry too much. It has a five year residential use and one year of commercial use warranty, so you can get it repaired or replaced.

Difficulties with the chain

You may find that the CS-400 requires you to constantly adjust the chain tension. Of course, it’s easy to do it, but becomes very frustrating when you have to do it too many times in a row. If you keep the chain too tight, the saw may bog down or overheat, so you should probably let the chain be a little looser than you would with other chainsaws. However, the chain loosens up pretty fast, so it can be very demanding of you to constantly adjust it.

Not very much power

It does have a lot of power for a chainsaw of its size and weight, but not close to the power that a regular sized chainsaw would offer. So if you don’t want to get your chainsaw bogged in deep cuts, you should probably look for a more powerful saw.

A reliable chainsaw!

When you compare the CS-400 with other similar chainsaws on the market, you’ll find that it is a good and reliable product for its weight, size and power. The high durability is really the key aspect about this chainsaw, so it’s a good investment if you want to use it for a long period of time without major problems.
