The Echo CS-450 is a very lightweight chainsaw that can cut through most wood types and logs as large as 30” in diameter. This chainsaw is ideal for home use such as cutting firewood, due to its light design and efficient components that will keep it clean and neat during use.
Easy to use
The Echo CS-450 warms up immediately and you should have no difficulties getting it started with the first stroke. The carburetor and most of its components don’t require many adjustments, as opposed to some of the previous Echo chainsaws, which is a big plus for entry-level users.
Its light weight makes it easy to maneuvre, even for amateur users. It provides enough power and doesn’t use much oil or gas, so you actually save pretty much time and money if you use it on a daily basis. The side chain tensioner allows you to easily adjust the chain, without having to dig your way through any saw dust or chain oil to do so.
Very clean chainsaw
One of the most impressive things about the Echo CS-450 is the fact that the air filter really succeeds in keeping saw dust away, which means that you can use it for long periods of time without having to clean it at all.
Light weight has its costs
The fact that the Echo CS-450 is a very lightweight chainsaw has its costs – much of the casing is made of plastic, which gives it a general cheap look and may actually break if you’re not careful when using it. And also due to its light design, this chainsaw is more prone to bind frequently.
Components could be of higher quality
You will notice that some of the components of the CS-450 are not as qualitative as you would expect. For example, the starter rope is a bit short, so you will have to get used with it, and you would definitely have liked to see a much sharper chain and a straighter bar.
The design seems to be somewhat clumsy, as the chain tensioner is built into the clutch cover, so you will have difficulties holding the bar and chain together while adjusting the tensioner to correct position. Another design flaw seems to be the off switch, which is right were your thumbs sit while operating it, which makes hitting the switch by accident very easy.
Decent chainsaw for its weight and size!
Despite some minor flaws, the CS-450 is a decent chainsaw for its weight and size, providing sufficient power and offering high durability for home users. If you’re in the business of serious woodcutting though, you should look for a much more powerful chainsaw, or at least for one that’s not made out of plastic.
